Located at Renningen train station, this fully automated, 24/7 market stocks a range of everyday/essential items. The new store was developed in cooperation with Deutsche Bahn and the Smark start-up, and it is part of the Renningen ‘future station’ project, boasting a futuristic design that utilises old shipping containers.
The automated outlet is the first of its kind for the EDEKA Südwest group. With a store concept of this type, “everything is possible,”
as store owner Gisela Karow-Schäfer puts it. Back-of-house robots fulfil orders made through an app on the customer’s phone or via a touch screen in store, while customers can also avail of freshly brewed coffee and hot baked goods in store. Hardware is provided by POS specialist Pyramid Computer GmbH.
